Over 35 local residents including farmers and interested community members gathered with MCC students at the VFW post 6105 in the town of Parma, March 30, for an overview of ways to improve energy efficiency through conservation, energy management, and renewable energy options, for agricultural structures and equipment. Jason Brown (MCC Workforce Development) highlighted determining factors when contemplating renewable and green energy options. Bob Prince, Parma Code Enforcement Officer, explained zoning and permitting considerations. Other information included farm energy audits and NYSERDA grant programs. Hands on equipment, demonstrations, and consultations were provided by Berkeley Heating and Cooling, EnSave (energy audits), Gleason Geothermal, Alternative Wind Resources (AWR), and the Center for Environmental Information, NYSERDA Energy Smart Communities."MCC is committed to providing expertise to the agricultural community so farmers and growers can take advantage of energy management programs and to help reduce their carbon footprint and become more sustainable," said Bob King, Ph.D. Director of MCC's Agriculture & Life Sciences Institute.
